About Cam Brown, Marathon & Ultra Running Coach
Hi! I’m Coach Cam. I’m married to an amazing wife, dad to a beautiful daughter, and virtual run coach based in central North Carolina, not far from where I grew up. I’m passionate about the marathon and ultra distances and want to help other runners chase their potential and find out what’s possible.
My Story
I got into running in 2024 when I signed up for a marathon and had no clue what I was doing. I dealt with multiple injuries throughout training, missed my goal time by 14 minutes, and ended up walking at mile 24. I said it was my last marathon. Five months later, I ran my second marathon, improved by 28 minutes, and won.
In 2025, I wanted to test myself in an ultra, so I ran a 50-miler in the mountains of North Carolina. I finished in 10:01, two hours ahead of my goal. After the race, I realized I had more to give, so I signed up for a 100K with the goal of winning it. Six months later, I ran 9:31:55 and won by 50 minutes. I honestly didn’t know if it was possible, but I went all in on training and accomplished the goal. The following spring, I ran 2:44:53 at the Garmin Durham Marathon, an hour faster than my first marathon and a Boston Qualifying time.
Now I’m chasing bigger goals of my own, including becoming a sponsored athlete and qualifying for UTMB, and running sub-2:30 marathon. Running has become a huge part of my life. I never knew I was capable of doing these things, and running has given me a passion and confidence that I want to help other runners find. That’s why I coach. I want to help runners discover that they are capable of more and give them the tools and guidance to chase those big goals.
My Running Philosophy
I believe improving physical fitness is the most important thing, which sounds obvious, but the way you improve it is by sticking to the basics. You need the right volume, the right intensity, and enough recovery to get the adaptations needed to perform at the level required to achieve your goals.
I think too many runners chase marginal gains by relying on the newest shoes, gear, supplements, or physiological hacks that often produce minimal gains. Don’t get me wrong, there is a place for these things and they can help, but your training is what will make or break your ability to reach your goals.
That’s why I want to help you train intentionally for your goals, build strength, fuel appropriately, and prioritize recovery. These are the things that move the needle.
How I Coach
I want to not only coach but teach.
I can write a customized training plan with prescribed paces or heart rate zones, but both can be influenced by outside factors such as fatigue, environment, terrain, and life stress. Runners need to learn how to use RPE alongside pace and heart rate to hit the right stimulus and effort. I want you to know when to push and when to hold back based on how you feel, rather than blindly following a number on your watch. I’ll help you develop that skill so you can train and race with confidence.
I’m not a hand-holder, but I’m also not confrontational. I know life can get chaotic, and plans and priorities change and I will adjust your training plan accordingly, but if you’re not committed or willing to put in the work, we probably won’t be a good fit. If you are, I think we’ll hit it off great.
I’m also not afraid to think outside the box. I like to keep training interesting and fun, and I’m not afraid to get aggressive when I feel it’s necessary while understanding that comes with additional risk. If we intentionally push the limits, I’ll make sure we’re also prioritizing nutrition and recovery to support it. I have big goals, and I want to work with people who have them too.
My Running Resume
I’ve run 13 races from 5k to 100miler, won 5 of those races and podiumed overall or in my age group in another 4 races.
My PB’s
5K: 17:04 (2026)
