Grindstone 100 miler prep - Week 3 recap.
Life is full of ups and downs and downs. Often they are tied to our goals expectations and whether reality exceeds or fails to meet what we expect.
I expected to build great fitness this summer preparing for Grindstone 100. Stacking brick upon brick. Reality isn’t cooperating.
I unfortunately am dealing with an injury in my right foot. Initially, I thought it was a tibialis tendon issue but now I’m thinking it may be some type of stress reaction. It was feeling better after a few days of biking but then I did a 15 mile run and it flared back up.
Right foot is swollen some
So, we are trying to stay positive and make the most out of it and will be biking all this week.
Here is weeks 3’s recap training for Grindstone 100 milers.
Monday - I did easy 5 miles on the treadmill. This was the day after my foot started acting up. I’d didn’t get worse after this run but also didn’t feel better.
Tuesday - I did 10 miles on the treadmill. More of the same. If anything it may have felt a little worse.
Wednesday - I decided to not run and borrowed a bike from my parents. I did 20 miles and it was fun being my first time in a bike in years. (My butt was extremely sore the next day)
Thursday - I did another 19 miles in the bike.
Friday - I did 11 miles on the bike (my butt began to get used to it) then I did a 1 mile run after to see how my foot felt and did t have any issues.
Saturday - I did 15 miles on the road. I started to feel my foot around 1.5 miles and should’ve stopped there but the pain and discomfort was minimal so I kept going. Later that day it swelled and there was more pain.
Sunday - I decided to take the day off to give my foot a break.
It’s not ideal but we’re going to make the most of it. We still have 13 weeks before Grindstone so plenty of time to still build good fitness for it.
