Slowly but Surely Coming Back - Grindstone 100M Prep (Week 8)
The boot has come off, and we were able to do some running this week, but we are not at 100% yet. I was able to do some running this week and even hit some 5:30 pace, but the injury flares up after a few miles of running and by Friday the pain was slightly worse, so I took the weekend off because I am still playing it safe. I have PT next week and am hoping we can progress from there to get back to extensive training.
This weekend we went to the Cherokee Ultra put on by East Coast Adventures. I was supposed to do the 70K but knew it was smart to opt out with my foot injury. I probably could have pushed through the pain, but I likely would have injured myself further and would had to drop out of Grindstone 100M which is my A-goal for the year.
Being at the race was fun but also hard mentally because I really wanted to compete. It’s been hard not being able to run when it’s something I love doing and was a part of my daily life. I especially miss just letting it rip and running hard and having that feeling of pushing while being drenched in sweat. It has helped shape my perspective for if I ever don’t feel like going for a run I hope I remember this time when I wasn’t able to.
If you’re currently going through an injury just hang in there. It will pass especially if you focus on doing what you need to do to get back to 100%. That may be rest, that may be PT, whatever it is do it to the best of your ability and you will come back sooner than later.
